Frequência Dissonante
In 2020, I co-founded Frequência Dissonante (“Dissonant Frequency”), a collective dedicated to diversity and gender issues in music. It grew naturally out of my academic research on women in music, from a wish to take those conversations beyond the university and share research, celebrate artists, and open up spaces for dialogue.
Since then, we have given talks at music schools, orchestras and festivals, and shared the work of more than 200 artists on our social media. We created a podcast, produced videos on sexual harassment and racism in music, and hosted online debates. We have also organised two editions of Sarau Erga Sua Voz (“Raise Your Voice”), an evening of performances centred on women and diversity.
One of the projects closest to my heart was researching the lives of twelve Brazilian women composers who had been forgotten by history. Their stories became the 2026 Brazilian Women Composers Diary, a way of bringing these names back into everyday life. With the collective, we have also recorded works by Brazilian women composers, some of them for the very first time.
I often say that in music I found not only a way to express myself, but a place of activism and belonging.
